What truly makes a workplace excellent today? Especially in times of economic uncertainty, pressure to change, and increasing competition, it's clear: An excellent workplace culture is not a «nice to have.» It is a central success factor for trust, adaptability, and long-term retention.
For the Best Workplaces™ Switzerland 2026 Insights Report, we analyzed data from 303 organizations and 51,038 employees. 212 organizations were certified as a Great Place To Work. The best 75 of them are among the Best Workplaces™ Switzerland 2026 – divided into five size categories. Micro (10–19 employees) to Large (250+ employees).
The report shows what these organizations do differently and which cultural patterns connect them.
Why trust is crucial right now
Many organizations respond to change with classic levers: making processes more efficient, optimizing costs, and adjusting structures. These measures are important. However, they are only sustainable if the organization itself is stable enough to bear change.
This is precisely where the impact of trust becomes evident. Employees who trust their organization, their leadership, and their team experience more clarity, are more actively involved, and remain engaged even during challenging phases. Therefore, trust not only creates a better work environment but also strengthens an organization's performance.
The data from Best Workplaces™ Switzerland 2026 shows that excellent employers perform significantly better than the Swiss average in key cultural dimensions. This is particularly evident where trust is experienced concretely: in fair treatment, transparent leadership, collaboration, emotional safety, and belonging.
What distinguishes the best employers in Switzerland
This year's Insights Report highlights four key areas that are particularly influential for an excellent workplace culture:
01 Fairness & Equity
Fairness doesn't mean treating everyone the same. What matters is whether employees experience decisions as understandable, opportunities as being distributed fairly, and recognition as not depending on proximity, role, or status.
02 Cooperation & Adaptability
Strong cultures are not only built on good collaboration, but also on the ability to evolve together. The best employers create frameworks that allow teams to work flexibly, solution-oriented, and across departmental boundaries.
03 Transparent Stewardship
Leadership is effective where it provides direction, communicates honestly, and involves employees. Clarity is a key anchor of trust, especially during times of change.
04 Strategic & Inclusive Leadership
Leadership is effective where it provides direction, communicates honestly, and involves employees. Clarity is a key anchor of trust, especially during times of change.
