Corporate culture as a strong driver of corporate success

"We love coming to work!" - as an employer, you want to hear sentences like this. However, this feedback also shows that you have created a good working environment and therefore a good workplace culture. A good workplace culture not only creates a better atmosphere among employees, but is also a key driver of the company's success. This was the result of a survey of over 360 board members conducted by the SwissVR Monitor on the topic of corporate culture.

A good corporate culture increases the company's success

When people think of boards of directors, they rarely associate this body with corporate culture. However, for more than two thirds (64%) of them, corporate culture is a strong driver of corporate success and an important competitive advantage. This is also shown by a comparison of the share returns of the "Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work for" with other listed companies that have not been recognized by Great Place to Work.

EVP suffers from corporate values not being practiced

Interestingly, however, more than a third (36%) of respondents stated that they do not or tend not to adapt their corporate culture in the event of strategic realignment. The problem here is that the employer value proposition (EVP) loses credibility if the strategic orientation is not supported by the workplace culture. On the other hand, 67% boards of directors try to prevent precisely this by setting a good example. They try to influence the corporate culture by "living the propagated values (tone at the top)" influence the corporate culture and change it.

This is not entirely successful, as only 42% fully agreed with the question "The BoD and management effectively exemplify the corporate culture". This is despite the fact that more than half of those surveyed see themselves as responsible for setting the cultural values and behavioral guidelines, while the management is responsible for implementation.

Employee survey as the most important measuring instrument for workplace culture

However, in order to shape workplace culture, companies must first survey and analyze it. Board members cited the "employee survey" as the most important tool, with around 74%. This is followed by the assessment through "impressions from company visits and interactions with employees" (65%), the "perceived behavior of management members" (62%), the "customer survey" (56%) and the "assessment by management" (48%).

Shaping workplace culture with Great Place to Work

In order to create a good workplace culture and develop it in a meaningful way, further steps are needed in addition to the employee survey. Our tried-and-tested approach, for example, consists of four steps: We start with a strategy workshop in which the objectives are defined and the project process is discussed. This is followed by an analysis of the corporate culture by means of an employee survey and culture audit. These results are analyzed in a third step and compared with benchmarks. In the fourth step, we define the measures in the fields of action together with the client and enable the organizations to implement them successfully.
