The Building and Transport Directorate of the Canton of Berne (BVD) is committed to reconciling the various needs for use on the one hand and for the protection and safeguarding of the habitat on the other. Its duty is to strive for sustainable development. The BVD deals with the diverse areas of water, environment, mobility and traffic, roads, land and buildings, maps and geoinformation as well as surveying.
The Civil Engineering Office (TBA) builds, operates and maintains the cantonal roads and the national road network in the canton of Bern.
In apprentice training, we not only focus on a wide range of specialist training, but also promote personal development and personal responsibility.
There is no right way to happiness; what really counts is the courage and passion to reach the goal - that's what we trust in.

With around 400 employees, the TBA ensures that roads in the Canton of Bern are safe and ready for use. We have been training qualified specialists in road maintenance for years. This is a win-win situation for everyone involved: the prospective road maintenance specialists and operational trainees receive top training with the best opportunities on the job market. The vocational trainers can pass on their extensive knowledge to a younger generation. And our organization is constantly receiving new impulses from the apprentices. Together we stand for an outstanding public service company.

Courses: Make yourself more marketable on the job market
During your apprenticeship, we offer you the opportunity to complete various courses.
Vacation: relaxation and peace
You receive 32 days of vacation per year of apprenticeship.
Educational materials: We cover the cost
Right at the beginning, you will incur some costs for learning materials. To ensure you do not have to bear these costs alone, the BVE will cover a portion of them.
National Future Day: Stop by
On the annual National Future Day, we offer students the opportunity to get to know BVE through various programs. Visit the Worblaufen or Münsingen maintenance yard in the programs „Get to know the inner workings of a maintenance yard“ and „A day in the life of a facility maintenance specialist“. Project week „Apprentices manage a maintenance yard“
For one week, BVD apprentices independently ran a maintenance yard. Specialists in operational maintenance, operational assistants, geomatics technicians, media technologists, commercial employees, and laboratory technicians took over all the duties of their fully trained and experienced colleagues and superiors – with complete success!
