EMS-CHEMIE AG is active worldwide in the business areas High Performance Polymers and Specialty Chemicals. It has 25 production sites in 16 different countries.
EMS has been training apprentices with great success since 1943. In Switzerland, around 140 apprentices are trained in 17 professions, mainly at the Domat/Ems site.
In the canton of Graubünden, EMS is the largest private training company with around 40 apprenticeships a year and a budget of CHF 5 million.

I was particularly fascinated by the versatility of the apprenticeship as a mediamatician. At EMS, we rotate every six months between the different specialist areas. At the beginning you work in the area of design, then you move on to producing and using multimedia and then to programming and marketing & communication.

EMS has been training apprentices since 1943. The first apprentice, 76 years ago, was a chemical laboratory technician. 75% of today’s EMS employees have completed a vocational apprenticeship. Of these, 80% work in their trained profession, while 20% have pursued further education at a higher technical college or university of applied sciences.
Vocational training has been of very high importance at EMS-CHEMIE AG since the company was founded. EMS currently trains around 140 apprentices in 13 apprenticed professions.
During their 3- or 4-year apprenticeship at EMS, every trainee rotates through various departments, allowing them to acquire extensive professional know-how along with diverse practical experience. It is crucial to integrate trainees into the company and ongoing projects as early as possible. The purpose of their work must be clear to the trainees right from the start.
