Portrait

We have come a long way since Ingvar Kamprad founded IKEA in 1943. From a small Swedish company that sold its goods through a mail order catalog, IKEA has become one of the most well-known furniture brands in the world. Today, there are hundreds of IKEA stores around the world and counting.

Our great passion is life at home. Our culture is built on enthusiasm, community and a 'we get it done' attitude. We are optimists and are always looking for new, better ways of working, from how we develop a rocking chair that fits in a flat package to LED lamps that are affordable for everyone. Our vision is to create a better everyday life for the many people - for customers, but also for our employees and the people who work at our suppliers.

In Switzerland, we employ almost 3,300 people in 9 IKEA stores, a distribution center and units of the Ingka Group. Of the 3,300 employees, 127 people are completing an apprenticeship at IKEA and experience every day how exciting it is to work in an international company.

We train the following apprenticeships:

  • Retail specialist EFZ and retail assistant EBA
  • Logistician EFZ and Logistician EBA
  • 3D polydesigner EFZ
  • System catering specialist EFZ
  •  Integration pre-apprenticeship sales
  •  Logistics integration pre-apprenticeship

What our employees say

When I first walked into IKEA, I was afraid that I wouldn't live up to the expectations of such a company. But thanks to IKEA, I learned to overcome my initial insecurities and be the person I am. Whether sociable, stubborn, thoughtful and with ups and downs. That's me and I'm fine with it. In addition, I have met many people who, thanks to their experience, not only provide me with an education, but are also a reassuring and encouraging presence. I can always rely on them and see them as my role models. During the pandemic period, I appreciate the closeness of the company, which helps to alleviate the frustrations that the pandemic brings. A big thank you to this company and to the people who are part of it!

Why work at IKEA AG

We are a diverse group of down-to-earth, open-minded people who all have one thing in common: a passion for home furnishings. We come from all parts of the world, but share the same inspiring vision: "to create a better everyday life for the many people."

Everything is based on community and enthusiasm. We work hard but always have fun and we are always looking for people who share our positive attitude and values. We believe that everyone has something valuable and unique to offer. In that, we are all the same.

The value of "taking responsibility" is an important factor in our apprentice training. The apprentices take responsibility for their work, their training and their development at an early stage. They are supported by vocational trainers and the network with all other apprentices helps them to achieve their own goals.
