This white paper is about integrating wellbeing in the workplace, understanding the mechanisms of stress, the importance of wellbeing measures and best practices in the form of employee experiences.
Work-related stress is a widespread problem that affects not only productivity but also cognitive performance. It is important to take preventative action against stress by becoming aware of what factors can trigger stress, how the body reacts to stress and how stress can be reduced. In our Europe-wide study, over 900 companies were surveyed. The results show that in Switzerland, 72% of companies consider work-related stress to be the main problem. While in Germany 65% and in France even 84% of companies have made health and well-being a strategic priority, in Switzerland it is only 57%.
We divide the causes of work-related stress into four main groups: Task demands, role demands, physical demands and interpersonal demands. Chronic stress can manifest itself in a range of health problems, including anxiety, social withdrawal, weakened immune systems, heart disease and burnout. It is important that organizations, managers and employees address the issue directly to avoid long-term damage.
